Toshiba AT200 Excite: Launch Day, Features – Review

For anyone who still remember, Toshiba launched an Android tablet a while back. It was bulky and big however it came packed full with ports and other essentials for the geek on the move and by god do I love such solutions. Small, and easy is sure wonderful, but when it truly comes down to it I want my hardware to pack a punch, reason for which I am most intrigued by their latest tablet, the “Toshiba AT200 Excite” which was recently revealed. So let’s check out its features and see what all the fuss is about.

Toshiba AT200 Excite

The Toshiba AT200 Excite comes in using a 10.1 inch (25.7 cm) capacitive LCD panel with LED backlight, with a quality of 1,280 x 800 pixels as well as multi-touch support. The processor powering the Toshiba AT200 Excite is the TI OMAP 4430 1.2GHz dual-core CPU and this one is combined with 1GB of DDR2 RAM. The internal memory can be upped all the way to 64GB of storage and you will go beyond that because of the micro-SD card slot which the device comes with. That needs to be plenty of storage for anyone out there.

Port wise, the ultra thin Toshiba AT200 Excite (it measures only 7.7mm in thickness), includes micro USB as well as micro HDMI and a docking port. You get Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n along with GPS, 3D Accelerometer, gyro meter, electronic compass as well as ambient light sensor. The main camera comes in with 5 megapixels and the front facing camera has 2 megapixels. There’s also a set of stereo speakers with 1.5W power output each.

The Toshiba Media Player facilitates a wide array of vide, picture as well as audio formats.

The total package of the Toshiba AT200 Excite measures in at 256 x 176 x 7.7 mm and weighs in at a very meager 558 grams. This makes it really portable for this sector of the market and with the specs underneath its shiny and stylish case, you can bet that it will be shifting through those apps like it’s no one’s business. The battery life is estimated by the manufacturer to 8hours with 100 % video playback of 8 hours with 65 % web browsing via WLAN, Ten percent video playback and 25 per cent standby.

The Toshiba AT200 Excite launch date, in Europe, is scheduled for sometime during the 4th quarter, so that should make the device little over a month away from release. But then again, the 4th quarter can also mean we’ll have to wait up to 4 more months. Prices are yet unknown, but make sure to check back soon as we’ll keep you posted!

Toshiba Thrive Tablet PC Debuting with Power Problems, Insects

Toshiba, that is no stranger to the tablet PC sector, is showing its relative inexperience using the Android tablet market. The outfit had debuted its Toshiba Thrive Android Honeycomb tablet pc a few weeks previously, and already a number of problems are now being reported by end-users.

Each early issues being reported are based on power. Particularly, the Thrive can enter an endless slumber when it’s hibernating. If the tablet is put to sleep, it won’t seriously without a hard reset. Another issue related to power suggests that the Toshiba Thrive will turn itself on randomly.

It’s not clear if these problems are due to the interior hardware wiring, or if it’s related to application, which may be remedied with an over-the-air software update.
Today, though, with the state of tablet and hardware, it seems that all of us are beta testers with un-finished hardware in one way or another, and therefore the Thrive isn’t the only tablet pc that ships with issue. Android Honeycomb’s debut tablet, the Xoom by Motorola, even though was clear of most glitches, had its own issues.

That tablet over-promised on its iOS-killer functions, such as Adobe Flash support, storage card support, and 4G LTE; Flash was only delivered following the tablet shipped via a application download, the storage space card is still yet to be enabled on the mobile broadband-enabled Xoom from Verizon wireless carrier, and the 4G LTE modem upgrade is still not yet been seen. The PlayBook from Research in Motion, in one more example, ships with no suite of apps to manage contacts, calendars, and email, and is lacking in support for running Android applications despite promise from RIM in supporting applications made for competing tablets.

Toshiba Thrive PC, 3 versions on sale

Toshiba’s fairly-long awaited Android Honeycomb tablet pc, known as Thrive, has now turn out to be available in the US in 3 versions, with 8GB of built-in storage, for $430, with 16GB for $480, and with 32GB for $578.

For those who have no idea, Thrive is powered by Android 3.1 and includes a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800) multi-touch screen enhanced using the Resolution Plus technology (makes SD content look better), a 1 GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC, a rear-facing 5mp camera permitting 720p video recording, a 2MP front camera, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a gyroscope, an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, GPS, an Sdcard slot, mini USB and full-size USB 2.0 ports, and a HDMI output.

Available here , the tablet pc also offers a non-slip Easy Grip interchangeable backplate and a user-replaceable battery which may be charged in 1.5 hours.

10 Future Android Devices We simply Can’t Wait For

A whole lot and strong Android devices are already out, but–by using our AndroidTabletPcReview.com machine–we can easily see the future of Android, and it looks awesome. Likely to arrive within the year are 3D phones, 4G speeds, and a shiny new Android OS.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (LTE)

The Wi-Fi-only Samsung Galaxy Tab may be debuting June 17th, but we are getting excited about the LTE version coming sometime this summer. Using its razor-thin design and crisp screen, this Android-based tablet is a worthy competitor to Apple’s iPad 2. Add Verizon’s blazingly fast LTE network in to the mix, and you’ll have a tablet that will be unequalled when it comes to browsing the net on the go.

Motorola Droid 3

Once the original Motorola Droid released in late 2009, it was the first in a new generation of Android devices. Now, nearly 3 years later, the upcoming Droid 3 is shaping as much as be a worthy successor to the Droid name. What with expected features such as a better keyboard, a high-res qHD display, and a dual-core processor chip, we can’t wait to obtain our hands on the Motorola Droid 3.

Note: The term qHD refers to a screen resolution of 960 pixels by 540 pixels arranged in a 16:9 aspect ratio. This quality is one-quarter of a full HD 1080p frame (thus the name) and it is three-quarters of a 720p frame.

Toshiba discusses the Thrive — the newest 10.1 inch Android tablet

Toshiba android tabletWe simply got completed sitting in on the Toshiba media conference, and a big part of the focus was on the 10.1 inch Toshiba Thrive Android tablet. We’ve seen many of the specifics, and lately learned about a July release, but Phil Osako from Toshiba answered the questions we could throw at him. The basic features are the same as we saw at CES 2011 — Tegra 2, a 5 MP digital camera around back and a 2 MP shooting up front, 1280×800 10.1 inch Screen with Toshiba’s “resolution plus” program, and shipping with Android 3.1.

We also found that Toshiba has built in SRS and their own proprietary system to provide excellent sound in the Thrive. All this checks in at .6 inches thick, and 1.6 pounds.

With the full-sized SD card and USB ports, they package deal their own file manager software that will assist new users once they move their media from one device to another. Other bundled software includes: Quick Office, Need for Speed, Toshiba’s media player, Log me in, and Printer Share for sending documents to a wireless printer.

The Toshiba Thrive will be available for ordering June 13, delivery in early to mid-July. You will discover it an most major stores — basically any place that markets Toshiba laptops will sell the Thrive. The price is what we often hear — starting at $429 for the 8GB version.

Toshiba affirms they decided to go with the 8 GB starting point for 2 reasons — to hit the low price tag, and because they have found that most users have no need for or use more than 8 GB. With the full size SD card slot, memory is expandable and they think consumers will see the appeal of the basic level model. And I think they are right.
Add in some accessories, like two docking stations (the fundamental dock checks in at $39.99, and the deluxe version with spare USB and HDMI ports is $59.99), a person replaceable battery at $89.99 and a battery cover that is available in five different colors for $19.99, and Toshiba has set themselves as much as earn.
