AT&T and Best Buy start getting Pre-Orders on February 17th

The large and awful 5.3-inch phone/tablet that’s been quite popular abroad has lastly made it onto US soil, well kind of. You can’t officially get it yet but you can pre-order this. When you pre-order, it’s set for delivery on February Seventeenth, so it’s a little bit to late to buy for Valentine’s day.

The Note is large, bad, and just what a lot of folks are looking for, something the size of the Dell Streak however with newer, faster hardware. It’s huge as a phone, but has enough size to it that it could function as a tablet for a lot of. The lure of carrying one device to cover both use cases is bound to attract quite a few folks, and the fact that LTE data is built into the unit is certainly a big plus, but the downside of LTE is for those of you who were not grandfathered into unlimited data. The rest of the specs are certainly no slouch either. That 5.3-inch Super AMOLED screen has a 1280×800 HD quality, there’s a 1.5GHZ dual-core processor (word is it’s the same Qualcomm as in the Skyrocket), a 2500mAh battery, 1GB of RAM, and Samsung’s excellent 8MP camera all running Android 2.3.5.

In the Galaxy Note we’ve seen the battery last pretty long for a huge 5.3-inch device but then that has on a GSM/HSPA+ device. This one is arriving with LTE so it’s bound to make battery life a bit shorter. We all know how awesome the battery life is on Verizon’s 4G LTE devices right? Fairly horrible to be exact. Don’t forget to check out our hands on of the AT&T Galaxy Note from CES recently in the mean time.

Keyboardless Samsung Galaxy S2 also arriving at AT&T?

The tale of AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy S II has had an interesting twist: it’s like the second largest US mobile company plans to introduce two versions of the smartphone.

One of them is the SGH-i927, the QWERTY-equipped device that we’ve seen yesterday. And also the other one seems to be this keyboardless phone that has just appeared over at Android Central.

Reportedly, this handset is AT&T and Galaxy S II top quality, and is currently in testing at AT&T. Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread and a WVGA display are the only features that have been unveiled until now. The smartphone certainly resembles the original Galaxy S II, although its corners are a bit more rounded, and there’s no hardware home button.

AT&T and Samsung usually supplies some official details on their Galaxy S II-related plans soon. Hopefully, both the QWERTY and non-QWERTY editions will make it to the market.

LG Thrill 4G hitting AT&T inside the coming weeks for $99.99

A week ago we saw that the LG Thrill 4G for AT&T will be costing $79.99 when it hits Radio Shack, perhaps on August 7th. If you’d like to get your Thrill from a corporate AT&T shop, though, it appears such as you’ll have to pony up a few more bucks. AT&T just announced that the Thrill 4G will be priced at $99.99 with a two-year contract when they get it. Just when will that happen? AT&T didn’t get into specifics, saying only that the Thrill will hit in the coming weeks.

Even though AT&T’s prices are a tad higher than Radio Shack‘s, you can’t really go wrong with picking up a dual-core packin’, 3D-capable Thrill 4G from either company. It’s kind of a bummer that the Thrill won’t come with Gingerbread out of the box, but hey, at least we know that an update to Android 2.3 should be coming along eventually

AT & T’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates

One of the largest gripes from clients who purchase cell phones directly from a U.S. company (instead of unlocked) is that carriers aren’t always so quick to push out Android updates. Good example — the unlocked Nexus One received its Froyo updates a long time before any other phone, and the Nexus S has seen updates faster as well.

AT&T is answering customer demands, though: the carrier just announced that upgrades to Android Gingerbread are planned for all post-paid Android mobile phones already introduced in 2011. This means that the Motorola Atrix 4G will get the update starting today, and HTC Inspire 4G owners will see it in the coming weeks.

The Motorola Atrix 4G update allows users the ability to download apps from third-party stores, and if you have a “Samsung Captivate”, you can rest assured that your phone will get the update too. Now will rival carriers take notice and get caught up?

Beginning today and continuing over the next few weeks, Motorola ATRIX 4G users will be prompted to install the update. To download the update, users must be connected via Wi-Fi. In August, HTC Inspire 4G users will be notified that the update is available and can be downloaded when connected to a Wi-Fi network. AT&T smartphone users can access at any one of the company’s more than 26,000 Wi-Fi hotspots at no cost.

The AT&T smartphones planned for a Gingerbread update are:

HTC Inspire™ 4G
LG Phoenix™
Motorola ATRIX™ 4G
Pantech Crossover™
Samsung Captivate™ 4G
Samsung Infuse™ 4G

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)

Gingerbread delivers a number of improvements, such as user interface refinements, refined copy/paste functionality and speed enhancements. The upgrade offers improved power management that offers a more active role in managing applications in addition to an improved on-screen keyboard with multi-touch support that makes typing faster and more accurate

AT&T: LG Thrill 4G Pre-Orders Can start Radio Shack

The LG Thrill 4G for AT&T, the United States’ edition of the “LG Optimus 3D“, may be lurking in the shadows of the “Motorola Droid Bionic” and “Samsung Galaxy S2″I for a while now but today, it has lastly emerged (sort of) and it is now available to those who waltz into “Radio Shack” outlets. Based on evidence procured by Engadget, the 3D smartphone can be secured with by purchasing a $50 Radio Shack gift card. It’s likely to price $80, pretty good, on a new 2 year contract and will supposedly launch in the beginning of August with August 7th being the supposed release date.

For those of you that dislike contracts, you can also snag the Thrill 4G for $550 off-contract but unless you have vaults of money, that’s probably going to be too steep of a cost for most.

LG Thrill 4g

The LG Thrill 4G faces an uphill battle right from the get-go as it will definitely be launching after Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D and will likely be launching right around the time the Motorola Droid Bionic arrives on Verizon. Throw in the fact that the Galaxy S II is supposedly coming to America next month and you can see why the Thrill 4G is probably not at the top of many peoples wish list.

If 3D is your thing though and you don’t like the EVO 3D and its WiMax speeds, the Thrill 4G is probably going to be the phone you want to snag and luckily, you can do that today if you wish.

AT&T Sure Acer Iconia Tab A501 to Sport Newer Hardware Elements Than WiFi Tab

Acer has submitted an addendum with the FCC for regulatory approval from the Acer Iconia Tab A501, which is a variant of the 10″ Iconia Tab A500 Android tablet which was released earlier. In addition for the 3G/4G HSPA+ tablet now supporting increased storage-it’s been knocked to 64 GB-it appears as if Acer is also swapping out some internal components within favor of new hardware.

Acer Iconia Tab A501 Hardware List

These new parts include new touch and graphic sensors. It’s not clear what differences these new components will modify the last product, and just how different the touch-screen experience will vary from the WiFi-only Iconia Tab A500 that’s currently on the market.
Because of the increased price of adding a wireless special broadband modem on the tablet to support AT&T’s network-Apple’s iPad for example comes with a $130 premium for the 3G functionality-it’s unclear what the final prices of the 3G/4G Iconia Tab A501 will be.
